Hitachi Construction Machinery (Europe) NV (HCME) will launch the ZX290LC-5 super long front medium excavator at Bauma. With an extended operating range, it has been designed for earthmoving on dredging, bank maintenance and slope finishing projects. The new model has been developed with a variety of features to meet the demands of European owners and operators, with an emphasis on productivity, durability, versatility, mobility, comfort and safety, and easy maintenance.
Hitachi excavator ZX290LC-5
Like all new Zaxis-5 excavators, the ZX290LC-5 super long front machine complies with the latest EU regulations on emission standards. Its powerful new-generation Isuzu Stage IIIB-compliant engine delivers higher productivity with greater fuel efficiency. The auto shutdown and auto idle features prevent fuel wastage and reduce noise levels, exhaust emissions and CO².
The TRIAS hydraulic system contributes to the increased productivity of the ZX290LC-5 super long front. It allows for faster operation with lower fuel consumption than the previous Zaxis-3 model. The auto power boost function has been increased by ten per cent to deliver an enhanced excavating and earthmoving performance.
Versatility has been enhanced by a new interchangeable function between the machine’s standard boom and arm, and its super long front. It also has a simplified hydraulic switchover from super long front back to the standard specification. Furthermore, it is possible to use standard arm point configurations for super long front equipment used for loading, allowing the parts to be interchangeable.
With a strengthened boom and arm, the new ZX290LC-5 super long front offers greater durability than the previous Zaxis-3 model, which makes it ideal for working long hours in rugged and remote environments.
The additional top-mounted counterweight can be easily dismounted using the standard front equipment, making it quicker and easier to disassemble and transport to the next job site, and improving its mobility.
Wherever the ZX290LC-5 is working, the operator can work in safety and comfort thanks to enhanced visibility, particularly down the right hand side of the machine. The monitor and door have been repositioned to enhance the view and also make access to and from the cab much easier. The rear-view camera offers a closer view of the counterweight to minimise the blind spot.
Like all Zaxis-5 machines, the ZX290LC-5 super long front has several features for easy maintenance to ensure high levels of availability. These include a wide range of useful technical information, such as machine status and settings, available for viewing on the multi-function LCD monitor and easy access for replacing consumable parts.
The ZX290LC-5 super long front was created at the Design Centre at Hitachi Construction Machinery Co., Ltd. (HCM) in Japan. Martin Visser, Product Sales Representative Special Equipment at Hitachi Construction Machinery (Europe) NV, says: “We believe the new range of Zaxis-5 special application excavators will exceed the expectations of our customers in Europe. The ZX290LC-5 super long front is a versatile, durable and efficient machine, and we look forward to presenting it to new and existing Hitachi customers at Bauma.”
