Wang Zhaoguo, Vice Chairman of National People's Congress Standing Committee Encourages Sany: Be An Innovative Enterprise and Realize Annual Revenue of 100-Billion

The Sany Industry Town looked more vigorous after an early summer shower on May 9. Wang Zhaoguo, Member of CPC Politburo, Vice Chairman of National People's Congress Standing Committee, and Chairman of All China Federation of Trade Unions conducted a field trip to Sany Heavy Industry, flanked by ranking officials including CPC Hunan Provincial Committee Secretary Zhang Chunxian and Provincial Governor Zhou Qiang.

Greeted by cordial applauds of employees at Sany, Wang Zhaoguo and his company stepped into Sany's No.1 Workshop to learn about the company's progress in R&D, production, and sales, and walked an extra mile to take look at Sany motor grader that were highly decorated during frost-fighting and disaster relief efforts early this year. At the No.1 Workshop, Wang Zhaoguo had intimate chats with workers, and asked in detail about their life and career conditions, a gesture symbolizing cares of the CPC Central Committee and the National Government for ordinary workers in action.

Realize Annual Revenue of 100 Billion Through Innovation

At Sany Heavy Industry's General Assembly Workshop, Wang Zhaoguo listened to reports and presentations by Sany's senior management including Liang Wengen, Tang Xiuguo, Xiang Wenbo, and Yi Xiaogang. President Xiang Wenbo of Sany Heavy Industry briefed Wang Zhaoguo on Sany's pumping products, saying, "Sany was the first in China to independently develop the 37-meter pump truck, also the first in the world to develop the pump truck with 43-meter arm support on tri-axle chassis." A pump truck's loading capacity is decided by the strength of axles in the automotive chassis it sits on, a much longer arm support on top of limited load capacity relies on advanced technology.

Standing beside a Sany 48-meter pump truck, Xiang Wenbo went out of his way to recall an anecdote about the assembly log hanging there: "Back in 2003 when General Secretary Hu Jintao came to visit Sany, the 48-meter pump truck had just been launched. The General Secretary thumbed through this log." Wang Zhaoguo actually read aloud the manufacturing procedure and examination records in the log, with great interest.

As of today, Sany is already capable producing 66-meter arm support for pump truck, the longest in the world. Wang Zhaoguo was apparently amused by this information, and immediately followed up with his questions on core technologies in Sany pump trucks.

"Core technologies mainly lie in the control system, the hydraulic pressure system, the structural component designing and preparing, and arm support. Sany would have been an enterprise struggling at its bottom line if it were not for independently developed arm supports. Sany sources all its market competitiveness from independent innovation," said Xiang Wenbo.

With many years of working experience at Dongfeng Motors, Wang Zhaoguo is very familiar with automotive manufacturing technologies. He was extremely happy when told that Sany is building concrete truck mixer on its own chassis product, that the first 25-meter pump truck on self-made chassis has been launched in Shaoyang City, and that the company is promising to apply such self-made chassis to all its pumping products.

Riding on the back of benign market environment, Sany realized annual sales revenue of 13.5 billion yuan, including 200 million US dollars from sales abroad and net income of more than 4 billion yuan. For 2008, the company is expected to record annual sales of 23 billion, including exports of 670 million US dollars. Board Chairman Liang Wengen said his company planned to realize annual sales of some 100 billion in the five or six years to come, and become a Fortune 500 enterprise.

"How ambitious you are!" Wang Zhaoguo was very satisfied with Sany's"transcript of records," saying he hoped that Sany keeped increase its investment in technical innovation, and hit such target as early as possible.

You Have Set Good Role Models for Your Peers

"I heard your products played a critical role in the frost-fighting and disaster relief efforts early this year," Wang Zhaoguo, who was taking a close look at the trailer-mounted concrete pump assembly line inside the No.1 Workshop, happened to raise a question on Sany motor grader, a widely praised mechanic tool used in those frost-fighting and disaster relief campaigns.
"We mobilized more than 20 of our motor graders meant for export to the US upon a phone call from Secretary Zhang Chunxian. The machines, many of them not yet pained, were put to frontlines of disaster relief," Liang Wengen told Wang Zhaoguo, adding that Sany motor graders were renamed "ice-removing vehicles" because of their efficient actions in the frost disaster, during which more than 20 Sany motor graders worked non-stop for 240 hours along the already clogged expressways.

“Motor graders were well adapted to missions during the frost disaster, efficient and professional!" reconfirmed Zhang Chunxian, Secretary of CPC Hunan Provincial Committee.

"The Provincial Government offered to compensate for fuel expenses, but it was completely not necessary as we took it as our duty. In addition to gears, Sany also sent away a Youth Relief Team of more than 2,000 to dispense supplies to people stranded along the expressway. It took a hard time for people there to believe that the instant noodles we released were totally free of charge." Xiang Wenbo’s remarks triggered a round of laughter.

"Sany Heavy Industry has set a good role model for us all," said Wang Zhaoguo singing high praise for the company. According to him, the CPC Central Committee, the CPC Hunan Provincial Committee, and the Hunan Provincial Government pinned much importance to frost-fighting and disaster relief. At a most difficult time in the country, everyone put his or her hands together for frost-fighting and disaster relief. Industrialists also contributed as much as they could, all of them having lived up to a tough test on their social responsibility."

Technical Workers Are Most Valuable Resources

While visiting, Wang Zhaoguo stopped here and there to warmly shake hands with workers on duty and ask about their jobs and lives.

"How much is your monthly salary?"

"Something between 3,000 and 4,000."

"How much is your year-end bonus?"

"Roughly a monthly salary."

"So your annual income adds up to 50,000 yuan, that's good!"

Wang Zhaoguo nodded happily when told that the average salary at Sany was among the top few in Hunan.

Wang Zhaoguo chatted a while by beside the crane assembly line with workers Min Heqing, Wu Hao, and Liu Xiaohui. "Do you have professional entitlement?" asked Wang Zhaoguo. "Yes. I am a technician." "Both of us are at intermediate level." All three of them made their answers.

"Experience-rich workers are valuable resources of the Company," Wang Zhaoguo encourage Wu Hao and Liu Xiaohui, who were younger than Min Heqing, to "learn from the experienced ones, and work their way to senior technicians."

Wang Zhaoguo was much concerned with career development of workers at Sany.

"Senior technicians are entitled to compensation equivalent to that of engineers. At the Company, we make it crystal clear to workers that all of them chances to become General Managers as long as they work hard enough." Liang Wengen introduced in detail to Wang Zhaoguo the career development path that Sany had designed for grass-root laborers, "Workers are encouraged to become shift leaders, and if they are elected Excellent Shift Leaders twice in a row, the Company might send them for college education free of charge. Upon returning to the Company after graduation, they could be promoted to Workshop Directors, or even General Managers."

Wang Zhaoguo expressed his appreciation for Sany's HR system, and encouraged workers by saying, "Sany has laid down a correct track for workers' career development, and it depends on everyone of you to extend your own treks. You need to be diligent in learning for improved qualification and technical innovation, with love for your current jobs." "Sciences and technologies are the most powerful production power. An innovative enterprise relies on both excellent managerial staffs, and also high-quality skilled workers, so that designs of advanced products might be turned into real production." Wang Zhaoguo encouraged Sany to align corporate development and benefits of the workers to realize even greater leaps.

While bidding goodbye, Wang Zhaoguo expressed his best wishes for Sany: "Sany Heavy Industry shall owe all its achievements so far to the powerful supports from the CPC Hunan Provincial Committee and the Hunan Provincial Government, as well as to the collective endeavors of its management and technical workers.
