SANY Port Machinery’s sales remained strong in 2013 regardless of a slack market due to the macro economy. Its logistics products had maintained the number one position in market share in China for three consecutive years and their international sales grew 15% year on year.
Winning the Bid for the Sheyang Port Project in Jiangsu
On July 2, at the tender awarding meeting held by the Sheyang Port Company of Jiangsu Province, SANY Port Machinery won the tender for all projects of this round of bidding invitation, with “higher efficiency, lower purchase, loading and off-loading costs.”
All products involved with the bidding were logistics products, including reach stackers, heavy forklifts, pneumatic cranes, and scrap handlers, totaling 20 million yuan. It was the largest single order for SANY Port Machinery this year.
The customer originally planned to purchase 17 on-site loading and off-loading equipment in 3 categories. After interviews with the customer and on-site research, the company recommended their “whole-set solutions and key equipment,” and made a point in recommending two of their new products the crawler scrap handler and heavy forklift.
The crawler scrap handler was a new product of the company this year. This unit was the first sold since its release. The product held obvious advantages in efficiency of loading and off-loading bulk cargo, convenience in loading, and height of stacking, with a broad prospect in the market. According to sales rep Yang Zhu, the turn-over of coal of the Sheyang Port were around a million tons and the scrap handler was the most efficient product for handling coal. Most importantly, the scrap handler’s grapples are easily replaceable to meet the demands of loading and offloading timber and iron and steel crap at ports.
The Single Biggest Order Worth over 100 Million Yuan
An Indonesian port operator has signed with SANY Port Machinery a purchase agreement to buy STSs and RMGs worth over 100 million yuan in total.
Headquartered in Singapore, the port operator offers whole-set engineering solutions for port operators around the world, such as equipment modernization and upgrading, re-installation and maintenance, equipment rental and sales. It is one of the strongest port machinery solutions providers in the world. The SANY port machinery involved in the contract is going to be used in the Djakarta region of Indonesia.
SANY exported the first batch of large port machinery, including quayside container cranes and RMGs, back in 2012. At the time, SANY beat multiple world famous contenders and won the purchase order of 4 RTG from the Turkish State Railways. In the Asia-Pacific area, SANY’s port machinery has already established good reputation. Only this February, 7 of SANY’s double-stacking empty container handlers won a bid from Port Kelang of Malaysia.
On the day when the contract was signed, the CEO of the port operator said that SANY’s pursuit of excellence was admirable and that this agreement would open the door for more cooperative opportunities to come.
The First Order for Big Port Machinery in the Middle East
SANY has signed a contract for the sales of big port machinery worth 10 million USD. This has been the first order for SANY’s big port machinery in the Middle East region.
The order covers one STS and 3 RMGs, which are to be used at the RSGT Port in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. The RSGT port was near the Red Sea, about 120 kilo meters away from Mecca and covering an area of 500,000 square meters. The port was put into operation at the end of 2009 and is the largest container port in the port in Jeddah.
As this has been the first time the big port machinery produced by SANY sold to the Middle East Region, the customer was extremely cautious with this purchase. In July 2012, the general manager of RSGT paid a visit to the Jianxiang Port in Guangzhou, China, to see the safe and efficient performance of SANY’s big port machinery. He gave high praise to SANY’s products and expressed the intention to purchase.
According to Zhongyin Li, Chairman of SANY Port Machinery, currently the Saudi market has over 100 units of big port machinery, including reach stackers, empty container handlers, and heavy forklifts, which serve ports in Jubail, Dammam in East Saudi Arabia and Jeddah and Yanbu as well as storage yard in their vicinity. In the last two years, SANY’s port machinery is gathering momentum in the Middle East and it is expected to become the number one brand there.
