The German media previously covered Sany Heavy Industry's investment of 100 million euros in building an R & D and manufacturing base in a scattered manner. However, during the visit of Premier Wen Jiabao to Germany, the project was ceremoniously signed at the Chancellery in Berlin and was highlighted in the relevant reports of news agencies, attracting extensive attention from the German media, which expressed their expectation of the project with tremendous coverage.
Colon City Daily splashed the event with half a page, entitling it 100 million euros worth of handshaking, and illustrating it with a huge photo that shows friendly handshaking between Sany's Liang Wengen and Rutgers, premier of North Rhine-Westphalia; another media institution published a commentary articles entitled Beijing, a foreseeable partner-China and Germany interested in jointly overcoming economic crisis for the European tour of Premier Wen, highlighting the investment project of the Chinese construction machinery manufacturer Sany in North Rhine-Westphalia.
Deutsche Presse Agentur (DPA) interviewed Koerdt, mayor of Bedburg about that. Koerdt said Sany Heavy Industry's investment will at least create 600 new jobs, "which is a great fortune for our city and the area."
According to Deutsche Welle, on January 28, Koerdt escorted Sany's senior management around the proposed plant site, and saw the temporary plant plan for the first time. Sany purchased half of the undeveloped 50-hectare land. The mayor expected the construction would start between April and June, saying Sany need engineers and professional workers like lathemen and millers, but the problem is that these professionals are in short supply here, thus some of the new jobs are likely to be occupied by outlanders.
A spokesman with the Premier Office of North Rhine-Westphalia said, "Apart from jobs, Sany is of great importance to North Rhine-Westphalia, because scientific research and production are closely related in the project."
Over 600 Chinese enterprises have reportedly settled down in North Rhine-Westphalia. Both contract parties believed the highly developed infrastructure, superior port-accessing geographical and logistic conditions, a number of high-caliber talents as well as professional consultation and full input by local management institutions and economic promotion institutions made North Rhine-Westphalia an ideal choice for Chinese enterprises in Europe.
