Gehl’s new compact excavators announced Thursday are designed for grading and excavating, trenching, digging, light utility construction, demolition and recycling. The new models include the Z17, Z27, Z35, Z45 and Z80. Each model is powered by a Yanmar engine that is Tier 4 certified on the Z17 and Tier 4 Interim certified on the Z27, Z35, Z45 and Z80.
Each model is a zero-tail-swing machine, eliminating cab overhang beyond the tracks in all directions and allowing the machine to operate in tight spaces such as directly against a wall or other obstruction, without causing damage to the structure or machine.
By incorporating two variable pumps and two gear pumps, Gehl designed the hydraulic system to enhance engine performance. Oil flows are efficiently combined and redirected to where the flow is needed. Gehl says this process allows for simultaneous operation without loss of hydraulic power.
The Z80 excavator adds the ECO mode feature which saves fuel when speed isn’t necessary by reducing engine rotations per minute by 10 pecent without sacrificing power. The mode is easily activated and deactivated with a simple toggle switch.
The Z27, Z35, Z45 and Z80 are equipped with a hydraulic quick coupler that works with a wide range of excavator attachments. An integrated boom light, mounted under the boom on all models, illuminates the area being excavated.
