The Volvo Group receives a top score of 100 points for Disclosure and rates B for Performance when the international organization CDP, Carbon Disclosure Project, reports environmental results in relation to carbon footprint for some 2,000 global businesses.
The 2014 result is a major improvement from last year’s score of 73/C. “Environmental care is a core value and a prioritized area for the Volvo Group. We have a clear strategy for climate change and a good system for executing this strategy,” comments Niklas Gustavsson, EVP Corporate Sustainability & Public Affairs.
The Volvo Group has been reporting climate results to the CDP since 2004 and is also reporting its environmental data publicly in the annual Volvo Group Sustainability report. Moreover, Volvo is the only commercial vehicle manufacturer that has been approved to participate in the WWF Climate Savers program, where public commitments are made on CO2 reductions among other areas. CO2 emissions from Volvo Group production sites have been reduced by 20% during the period 2009-2013.
The Volvo Group engages in environmental activities within several areas. Some examples are fuel efficiency on products, research and development of alternative fuels, lower emissions from products as well as energy and resource efficiency improvement in production. Lobbying for a new generation of public transport solutions with electric and hybrid buses is another important area.
About the CDP scores
The CDP results are presented in a score between 0 and 100 for Disclosure and between A and E for Performance where A is best. To reach A requires that the company performs a third party audit of its environmental data. (Source: Volvo Group)
