580 Meters SANY's Pump Trucks Help Sealing the Top of the Shanghai Center

On August 3rd, 23 pump trucks made by SANY Heavy Industry were used to seal the top of the main structure of the Shanghai Center. In the project, SANY’s pumps set a new concrete pumping record and delivered concrete to a height of 580 meters.

The Shanghai Center, which is to be completed in 2014, is located in the financial center of Lujiazui area in Shanghai. Covering an area of 30,000 square meters, the structure is a comprehensive building integrating the functions of office, hotel, and sight-seeing. It is located near the Jin Mao Tower and the Shanghai World Financial Center.

The Shanghai Center is built on a foundation as high as a two-story building and 1.6 times as large as a standard football pitch. It took as much as a quarter of the total amount of concrete used for the whole Shanghai World Financial Center and is the largest foundation for civil architecture in the world.

18 units of SANY equipment were deployed here at the end of March, 2010. 12 pump trucks, 4 trailer-mounted pumps, 2 line pumps made by SANY delivered 60,000 cubic meters of concrete in 60 hours.

It is an enormous challenge for any pumps to deliver over 60,000 cubic meters of super-strength concrete in 60 hours, be it in terms of the scale of construction or the degree of difficulty. For industry insiders, this is rare even in the entire world.

In April, 2010, after the massive foundation was completed, 3 trailer-mounted concrete pumps and 2 placing booms from SANY started to deliver concrete vertically to construct the structure itself. As of August 6, 2013, concrete placing job for the 123 stories of the core wall and 110 stories of the outer wall of the Shanghai Center was completed and in total 90,000 cubic meters of concrete were placed.

The strength of the concrete used for this building is C60. However, with admixture added, the real strength has reached C100. If we compare the pumping of common concrete to pumping water, then the pump of C100 grade concrete is like pumping asphalt. It is extremely demanding for concrete pumping equipment to pump high-strength concrete.

It is a high-profile state-level key project and it is also an extremely challenging project. However, all 23 units of concrete pumping equipment were from SANY. A member of the senior management of the contractor Shanghai Construction Group said, “It was all thanks to our trust of SANY’s quality through years’ cooperation.”

Out of trust in SANY’s equipment, senior management of Shanghai Construction Group decided to use a flag-ship product developed by SANY back then – the HBT90CH2150D super high pressure concrete pump. The pressure at the end of the hose of the pump is 50 MPa and the power of the equipment was 273x2 kW and its theoretical pumping height was over 800 meters.

The past 1,700 days and nights has proven that SANY’s trailer mounted concrete pumps were stable and powerful. Even working in high temperatures, SANY’s HBT90CH2150D trailer-mounted concrete pumps never failed because of explosion of the hose or blockage of the hose.

The sealing of the top of the Shanghai Center also means that the King Pump in China set a record by delivering concrete to the height of 580 meters.

So far, of all the high-rising buildings in Shanghai, Guangdong, Hong Kong, Taiwan, and Liaoning, 9 buildings or 70% of the total, were built with SANY’s concrete pumping equipment. All skyscrapers higher than 500 meters in China have been constructed with SANY’s equipment.
