Yuchai's Shen Jie, Feng Jing listed among Guangxi's 2nd group of "Bagui scholars", "distinguished experts"

Recently, the General Office of the Party Committee of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region and the General Office of the People's Government of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region has issued a notice that Yuchai's two experts--Shen Jie and Feng Jing have been listed among Guangxi's second group of "Bagui scholars" and "distinguished experts". 27 experts have been honored as the second group of "Bagui scholars" and 22 as "distinguished experts", according to sources.

Once chief engineer of Yuchai Machinery Co., Ltd. (Yuchai), Shen Jie now acts as chief engineer of Yuchai Group and senior technical advisor to chairman of Yuchai. Since 2007, he has led the independent development of Yuchai's nine series of over 30 diesel engine models including leading models like YC6J, YC6L, YC4F, YC4W, YC6MK, YC6T, YC12VT, YC6C and YC8C, making remarkable contributions to Yuchai's rapid development. To promote Yuchai's sustainable development, he has established diesel engine series platforms covering heavy-duty vehicles, medium-duty vehicles, light-duty vehicles, passenger vehicles, mini vehicles, cars, construction machinery, agricultural machinery and ships; has grasped technical routes such as the electronic control system of YC6L National III series and SCR application of National IV and National V products, laying the groundwork for Yuchai to take the lead in mass-manufacturing National III, IV and V diesel engines in the domestic market. The R & D of four-valve diesel engine, horizontal diesel engine, car diesel engine and two-stage turbocharged diesel engine, led by him, has filled a domestic gap in vehicle diesel engines. After years of operations, he has built several R & D platforms with FEV, AVL, the Southwest Research Institute and Ricardo, and created three core technical platforms-combustion system platform, electronic calibration and powertrain matching.

As Yuchai's technical leader, while working on product development, Shen has actively carried out researches to make remarkable contributions to industrial technology development. Since 2007, he has been involved in and completed  four 863 projects assigned by the Ministry of Science and Technology (MOST), including R & D of CNG Engines Specific to Large Buses, "Development of Heavy-duty Commercial Vehicle Diesel Engines", "Development of Hybrid Diesel Engines Specific to Coaches" and "Car Diesel Engine Development Technology"; two key technological development projects in Guangxi; led the construction of Yuchai's national corporate technical center and postdoctoral research workstation, won the "Achievement Award for State-accredited Technical Centers" and instructed five post doctors. As a part-time professor and master's supervisor of Guangxi University, he instructed 16 graduate students.

Shen has won a national second prize for progress in science and technology, a provincial (ministerial) special contribution award, a first prize, five second prizes and three third prizes for special contribution to progress in science and technology, and three first provincial (ministerial) prizes for outstanding achievements in new products; has won 26 national patents including three patents for invention; has given guidance on the formulation of 25 national and industrial standards; and has published over 40 scientific papers on domestic and overseas professional academic meetings and magazines.

Feng Jing, now deputy chief engineer of Yuchai and vice president of Yuchai R & D Center, has been accomplished in engine R & D and made remarkable contributions to Yuchai's development. She has led the development of the first domestic independent Euro III and Euro IV electronic control diesel, broken the monopoly of foreign engines and brought Yuchai products into the country's major events and foreign visitor receptions such as the Beijing Olympic Games, the Shanghai World Expo, the Guangzhou Asian Games and the reception for NPC and CPPCC as a symbol of national brands. She has led the development of 15 series of National III and IV electronic control diesel engines, and taken the lead in the country to develop the capacity for independent electronic calibration, and established the criterion for electronic control engine pedestal calibration, vehicle calibration and three-high calibration (high temperature, highland and high heat), the developed products have been launched in batches, with an annual sales volume of over 150,000 units. She has led the development of the first domestic independent car diesel engine and undertaken "Car Diesel Engine Technology", an 863 project in the "eleventh five-year" period, as the person in charge. After three years' development, the project has been accepted by the MOST, achieved significant results in the development of key parts and technologies including car-specific high-pressure common-rail system, engine control system, engine design, vehicle matching and design, and diesel particulate filter (DPF), and formed the capacity for independent R & D and production. She has led the independent development of electronic unit pump engine controller (YCECU), breaking the technical blockade and product monopoly of foreign suppliers. Besides, she led the development of diesel engine SCR post-process controller (YCDCU) and the technology of renewable pneumatic hybrid engine, achieving major technical breakthrough.

Also, Feng organized the formulation of dozens of corporate technical specifications and standards including the SAEJ1939-based Communication Criterion, Technical Specification for Yuchai CNG and LNG Engine Matching and Installation, Test Method of Automotive Acceleration Performance, Calibration Criterion for Basic Properties of Electronic Control Diesel Engines, Engine Configuration Calibration Criterion, Standard for Pre-delivery Tests of Vehicles with Unit Pump Engines and Test Method of Fuel Charge of Bosch Common Rail Injector.

In December 2010, Guangxi officially promulgated the Measures for Trial Implementation of the System of Bagui Scholars and the Measures for Trial Implementation of the System of Distinguished Experts to practice the system of recruitment of Bagui scholars and distinguished experts, with the aim of advancing the implementation of the strategy of invigorating Guangxi by talents, accelerating the attraction and cultivation of high-caliber innovative and entrepreneurial talents, strengthening the capacity for independent innovation and promoting the scientific development of the economy and society.
