2011 International Internal Combustion Engine Summit held in Yuchai

On December 18, 2011 International Internal Combustion Engine Summit, jointly organized by the Chinese Society for Internal Combustion Engines (CSICE), China Internal Combustion Engine Industry Association (CICEIA) and Society of Automotive Engineers of China (SAE-China), was held at Yuchai, China's largest internal combustion engine manufacturing base. Wang Ruixiang, chairman of China Machinery Industry Federation (CMIF), attended the summit and delivered an opening address. Yan Ping, chairman of Yuchai Group, delivered a welcome speech. 

37 domestic and foreign internal combustion engine experts and scholars, including Ouyang Minggao, member of the Standing Committee of the CPPCC National Committee, director of the State Key Laboratory of Automotive Safety and Energy, director of the Engine Committee of SAE-China, Cheung Kong scholar and leader of the new energy vehicle expert panel of the Ministry of Science and Technology; Jin Donghan, president and chief engineer of Shanghai Marine Diesel Engine Research Institute, doctoral tutor and researcher; and Su Wanhua, academician and professor of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, chief scientist of Program 973 and vice council chairman of CSICE, as well as leaders, experts and nearly 100 key researchers and developers of Yuchai attended the summit.

Wang Ruixiang, chairman of CMIF, delivered an inspiring speech at the summit. By elaborating on the remarkable development of China's internal combustion engine industry in the "eleventh five-year" period, he acknowledged the bumper fruit yielded in China's internal combustion engine industry through steady independent innovation, stressed the sacred historical mission of China's internal combustion engine industry in the "twelfth five-year" period is to proceed with industrial structure adjustment and optimization under the guidance of the scientific outlook on development, with focus on transforming the development mode and in the direction of transformation and upgrading, to discuss higher technologies of energy conservation and emission reduction and conduct green manufacturing, to improve the overall technical level of the industry, and to shoulder the social responsibility of the industry. 　

Wang spoke highly of Yuchai as the leader in China's machinery industry, which upheld the concept of "Green Development & Harmony Win-win", pursued the business philopshy of "Excellent Quality, Globalized Yuchai", persisted in reform, innovation, adjustment and optimization, grew from an unknown small workshop into a world-famous internal combustion engine manufacturing base, and created a lot of domestic number ones over the six decades. Particularly, Yuchai filled many national and industrial gaps in such aspects as technical innovation, technical progress and patent technology, and achieved the goal of tripling sales in five years by the end of the "eleventh five-year" period. 

Wang added, we visited Yuchai's achievement exhibition this morning and saw a dazzling array of inspiring achievements; the ceremony was grand, spectacular and soul-stirring. I think Yuchai's success over the six decades is a hard evidence of development of China's internal combustion engine industry as well as an epitome of invigoration of the industry.

At the summit, Yan delivered an ebullient welcome speech, extending heartfelt thanks to internal combustion engine experts, scholars and all walks of life for their strong support to Yuchai, sincerely hoping to cement cooperation with domestic and overseas research institutes and corporate institutions, and expressing Yuchai's confidence and resolution to advance the development of international internal combustion engine technologies, promote the new industrial revolution of mankind, and strive for the magnificent vision of making the sky bluer, waters clearer and human life happier. 　　

Centering on the theme of "Future of Internal Combustion Engines", Jin Donghan, president and chief engineer of Shanghai Marine Diesel Engine Research Institute, doctoral tutor and researcher; Michael Kuehn of MBtech; Su Wanhua, academician and professor of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, chief scientist of Program 973 and vice council chairman of CSICE; and Lin Zhiqiang, chief engineer of Yuchai Machinery Co., Ltd. (YM) delivered keynote speeches. 　

Jin's report entitled Technical Summary and Outlook of Marine Diesel Engines introduced the actualities of marine diesel engines, current challenges and LNG's impact on shipping as a fuel. Jin thought energy conservation and emission reduction has become the first power that pioneers the direction of technical development of marine engines and it is expected that ultra-low-emission and higher-efficiency marine diesel engines will become a reality in the near future. In the report entitled Future Power Transmission System Development Is Driven by Virtual Reality and Communication Strategy, Kuehn introduced the history and core drive force of strategies of power transmission system development, and preconditions of virtual reality and virtual development process in power transmission system development, and cited cases of virtual reality to analyze the development of power transmission systems.

In the report entitled Research on Diesel Engine Combustion Control, Su introduced the process control of diesel engine combustion, experimental installations and arrangements, interactions between parameters of combustion process control, bottleneck of combustion process of high-strength diesel engines, etc. 　

In the report entitled Technical Development of Internal Combustion Engines, Major Driving Factor for Enterprises to Bear Social Responsibilities, Lin elaborated on the four social responsibilities--"energy conservation, emission reduction, material saving and value" borne by engine enterprises, and stressed technology is the driving force for enterprises to bear social responsibilities.

At the summit, experts and scholars interacted with attendees. Leaders, including Ouyang, Jin and Su; Xing Min, vice council chairman and secretary-general of China Internal Combustion Engine Industry Association; Zhang Jinhua, executive deputy secretary-general of SAE-China; Zhao Hua and Xu Min, famous experts at electronic control of diesel engine in China's internal combustion engine field, professors of Shanghai Jiaotong University, invited experts of SAE-China, executive council members of CSICE and honorary council chairman of Shanghai Society for Internal Combustion Engines; Zhuo Bin, senior technical consultant to chairman of YM, had interactive discussions with attendees about issues such as the outlook of the internal combustion engine industry, the main direction of future development of China's new energy technologies, the technical direction of development of powertrain matching and the future development of electronic control technology of internal combustion engines. Experts and scholars' thorough analysis and incisive explanation of frontier information in the internal combustion industry broadened attendees' innovative ideas and aroused the innovation inspiration of researchers and developers. 　　

Grasping the direction of internal combustion engine development and being geared to international practice is the common responsibility of China's internal combustion engine industry. Through 2011 International Internal Combustion Engine Summit, Chinese and foreign internal combustion engine experts and scholars discussed and exchanged experience in depth, pointed out a new direction for the future development of China's internal combustion engine industry, and explored the new mechanism and mode of advancing technological innovation and bearing industrial social responsibilities in the new situation.
