Caterpillar is pleased to be included in the RobecoSAM Sustainability Yearbook 2013. On January 22, Caterpillar received notification of inclusion in the Yearbook in the Industrial Engineering sector and was congratulated by RobecoSAM for outstanding achievements in the area of sustainability.
The RobecoSAM Sustainability Yearbook is one of the world's most comprehensive publications on sustainability trends and corporate sustainability performance covering 58 industry sectors. Only the top 15 percent in each of the RobecoSAM sectors qualify for inclusion in the Sustainability Yearbook.
In September 2012, Caterpillar was named to the Dow Jones Sustainability Indexes (DJSI) for the twelfth consecutive year. Launched in 1999, the annual Dow Jones Sustainability Indexes are the first global indexes tracking the financial performance of the leading sustainability-driven companies worldwide. Based on the cooperation of Dow Jones Indexes and RobecoSAM, they provide asset managers with reliable and objective benchmarks to manage sustainability portfolios. A major source of information for the DJSI process is RobecoSAM's annual assessment that enables companies to benchmark their sustainability performance against their peers and thus evaluate their strengths and weaknesses with regard to their sustainability strategies. Based on RobecoSAM Research's corporate sustainability assessment, companies are ranked within their industry group and selected for the Dow Jones Sustainability Indexes if they are among the sustainability leaders in their field.
According to RobecoSAM, companies have made such great strides over the past ten years that it has become much harder for them to stand out against their peers when it comes to sustainability. Many companies integrate sustainability into their overall strategy. Product and process improvements as well as tangible results are necessary to distinguish the sustainability leaders from the laggards precisely because so many companies have already made such big strides.
