Yuchai's Liao Rongfu donates HSCs free to save leukemia suffer

Liao Rongfu, a donor of hematopoietic stem cells (HSCs) and a worker with Yuchai No. 1 Engine Plant, together with his wife and son, returned from Yongzhou to Yulin by bus on the afternoon of July 13. Immediately after getting off the train, Liao was warmly welcomed by the staff of Yulin Red Cross, Yulin's HSC volunteers and the chairman of trade union of the plant. Media outlets such as Yulin Daily and Yulin Evening News also covered his story.

As a blood donation activist in Yulin, Liao once won a gold award for blood donation. In 2007, he joined Chinese HSC volunteers and received blood sampling. Early this year, through primary comparison and high-resolution detection, his cells exactly match those of a leukemia suffer. He was excited to learn he could save a life, decided to donate his HSCs without hesitation and was supported by his wife. After passing the high-resolution match and physical examination, in the company of his wife and son, Liao set off on July 5 for the First Affiliated Hospital of Guangxi Medical University for HSC donation, and became the second unrelated HSC donor in Yulin.

Liao is the city's another successful donor after Huang Jianan donating HSCs successfully in December 2010. He demonstrated his good outlook of making selfless contribution and assuming social responsibility by actual deeds, interpreting the volunteer spirit of "contribution, fraternity, mutual help and progress".
