High-end marine electric engines break import monopoly

Yuchai Machinery Co., Ltd. (YM) has recently released three independently developed high-speed large-power marine diesel engines for power generation integrating the advanced technologies of the world's four famous renowned internal combustion engine research institutes. According to an industry insider, they are expected to change the situation that China's high-end marine electric engine market has been dominated by foreign brands. The introduction of the three new high-tech marine electric products is a great event in the Chinese history of marine engine development and will play a significant role in promoting the development of China's ship industry, said Liu Zheng, director-general of the Register of Fishing Vessel of the Ministry of Agriculture. 　

China owns one fourth of fishing vessels in the world, and nearly 95 percent of China's vessels are fishing vessels. The key to the development of modern fishery is modernization of equipment for fishing vessels, and the core of modernization of equipment for fishing vessels is marine engines. However, China has only a high-speed large-power diesel engine model currently, and the market has almost been monopolized by international engine giants.
