CAST Executive VP Chen Xi visits Yuchai

On July 4, leaders including Chen Xi, executive vice president of the China Association for Science and Technology (CAST), first secretary of the Secretariat of the CAST and secretary of the Party Leadership Group of the CAST; and Cheng Donghong, member of the Secretariat of the CAST and deputy secretary of the Party Leadership Group of the CAST visited Yuchai to inspect science and technology work. Chen hoped Yuchai would continue to give play to its advantage in technological innovation, plan development at a level of large-sized international enterprise and make greater contribution to the Chinese cause of science and technology. Wei Chaoan, deputy Party secretary of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region and Jin Xiangjun, secretary of the CPC Yulin Municipal Committee inspected Yuchai in company with Chen. Leaders of Yuchai Group, including President Gu Tangsheng and Deputy Party Secretary Li Tiansheng warmly received the visiting leaders.

Gu briefed the visiting leaders on Yuchai's basic information and the work of the science and technology associations. He said, Yuchai has always kept to the road of invigorating the enterprise through science and technology and sharpened its core competitiveness through technological innovation. Yuchai has established research bases in Nanning and Yulin, has owned a national corporate technical center, a national engineering laboratory and a postdoctoral workstation, as well as more than 10 product R & D platforms geared to domestic and overseas frontier technologies, has created strong R & D platforms centering on independent R & D technologies and geared to world frontier technologies, drawing upon external strength and serving the interior, has been up to advanced international standards in combustion development, low-emission development and machinery development, and filled domestic gaps in automotive engine. In 1990, the Science and Technology Association of Yuchai Machinery Co., Ltd. was established. In April 2011, the Science and Technology Association of Yuchai Group was established, with 39 commissioners and over 1,500 members so far. They are major forces of development of Yuchai's cause of science and technology.

After listening to Gu's introduction, Chen shared his thoughts on science and technology work. He said, Yuchai is a great enterprise that has made remarkable contribution to the development of the country's automobile industry, especially diesel engine industry. Through independent technical progress, Yuchai has constantly improved product quality and established a banner in the industry. As the most active economies, a multitude of leading enterprises like Yuchai must take the road of technological development, pay attention to and introduce international technological innovation achievements, establish their own innovation systems, led the industry in making technical progress and progressively sharpen their international competitiveness. At the same time, Yuchai must link its development strategies to national strategies, plan development at the level of large-sized international enterprise and bear greater responsibility for the development of the national industry.
